A Flag Quiz Where the Flag Shows Up Bit by Bit

Most flag quizzes show you the whole flag and wait. Flag Reveal hides it behind a wall of nine blocks that flip away one at a time. The sooner you know it, the more you score, so every question turns into a little game of nerve. Do you go now on a stripe and a corner, or wait one more tile to be sure?

The flag waves on a pole on a small floating island, and every answer is a lesson. Right or wrong, you see the full flag with the country’s name, its capital and its continent. When a flag has a famous twin, you get a quick tip on how to tell them apart. It’s a fun way to learn with a flags of the world quiz, and it works just as well as a country flag test when you think you already know them all.

How to Play Flag Reveal

At heart it’s a name the flag quiz: one flag, four country names, one right answer.

  1. Watch the tiles flip. A flag sits behind a 3x3 grid. The first tile opens right away and another follows about every half second, so the whole flag is showing after about four seconds.
  2. Guess the flag. Pick one of the four country names below whenever you’re ready. The points for the question start at 1,000 and drain while the tiles open, down to 100.
  3. Go early for a Sniper. Get it right with three tiles or fewer open and you score 50% extra.
  4. Keep the streak alive. Every right answer in a row grows your flame. Five in a row doubles your points and ten in a row triples them. One wrong answer puts the flame out.
  5. Earn your stars. Get half the flags right for one star, three quarters for two and nine out of ten for three.

Quiz Modes

Pick the country flag quiz that suits your mood:

  • Daily Challenge: 10 flags that are the same for everyone today, with a result you can share.
  • Easy: 15 famous flags. This is the flag quiz easy mode, good for kids or for a quick warm-up.
  • World: 15 flags that start with the famous ones and finish with the tricky ones.
  • Hard: 15 less famous flags, with answer choices taken from flags that look alike.
  • Continents: one round each for Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America and Oceania. These earn your passport stamps.
  • All 197 Flags: every country once, from the easiest to the hardest. You can stop at any time and see how far you got.

Every round also gives you Practice Missed at the end, a quick round of just the flags you got wrong.

Tips for Learning Flags

A country flags quiz rewards patterns more than memory. These habits help in any flags quiz, not just this one.

  • Look at the layout before the colors. Vertical stripes, horizontal stripes, a cross or a disc will rule out most answers in the first second.
  • Learn flags in families. The Nordic crosses, the red, white and black flags of the Arab world and the green, yellow and red flags of West Africa are much easier side by side.
  • Read the tip after a miss. Most hard flags have one detail that gives them away, like a star, an emblem or a slightly different shade.
  • Use Practice Missed right away, while the mistake is fresh. A flag you get wrong and then right sticks better than one you only got right.
  • Play the continent rounds to fill your passport. Mastering one continent at a time is easier than all 197 at once.

Flags That Look Alike

These are the pairs that catch out almost everyone in a world flag quiz:

  • Chad and Romania are almost identical. Chad’s blue is a little darker.
  • Indonesia and Monaco are both red over white. Monaco’s flag is squarer. Poland is the reverse, white over red. At the same 3:2 shape the two look identical, so the quiz never offers one as an answer for the other.
  • Ireland and Ivory Coast are mirror images. Ireland has green at the pole side, Ivory Coast has orange at the pole side.
  • Ireland and Italy: Italy is green, white and red. Ireland is green, white and orange.
  • Netherlands and Luxembourg: Luxembourg’s blue is lighter than the Netherlands’ blue.
  • Australia and New Zealand: Australia has white stars and a big seven-pointed star. New Zealand has four red stars.
  • Norway and Iceland: Norway is red with a blue cross. Iceland is blue with a red cross.
  • Senegal and Mali: Senegal has a green star in the middle. Mali has no star.
  • Mali and Guinea: Mali is green, yellow, red. Guinea is the reverse, red, yellow, green.
  • Belgium and Germany: Belgium has vertical stripes. Germany has horizontal stripes.
  • Qatar and Bahrain: Qatar is maroon with nine white points. Bahrain is red with five.
  • Latvia and Austria: Latvia is a darker red with a thinner white stripe. Austria’s three stripes are equal.
  • Hungary and Bulgaria: Hungary is red, white, green from the top. Bulgaria is white, green, red.
  • Japan and Bangladesh: Japan has a red disc on white. Bangladesh has a red disc on green.
  • Mexico and Italy: Mexico has an eagle in the middle. Italy has no emblem.
  • Colombia and Ecuador: Ecuador has a coat of arms in the middle. Colombia has none.
