A Black Hole Game With Mutations
You start as a tiny hole in a park. You can fit a bench in it, maybe a traffic cone. Three minutes later you’re eating skyscrapers. That’s what makes a hole game fun: the city slowly tips over the edge and drops in, one piece at a time.
Mutant Hole keeps that and adds mutations. Each time you level up, the game stops and deals you three cards. Whichever one you pick changes your hole for the rest of the round, and after a few picks your run won’t look like the last one.
How to Play
- Eat anything smaller than you. Trees, cars, people, lamp posts. If it fits, it falls in. Each bite gives you XP and widens the hole a little.
- Pick a mutation when you level up. Some are permanent boosts, like a wider pull or a faster hole. Some are powers on a timer, like Magnet, Twin Hole and Tornado. Others are attacks with a cooldown, like Quake, Lightning and Shrink Ray.
- Keep the hunger bar full. It drains every second. Big bites refill it the most, and if it hits zero your hole closes.
- Watch the rival holes. They’re growing too. You can swallow a rival that’s clearly smaller than you, so keep away from the bigger ones.
- Take on the boss. At 2:00 the MEGA MECH walks into town. Get big enough and you can eat it.
When the timer runs out you’re ranked by size and paid in coins. Spend them on permanent upgrades, new hole skins and new maps.
Game Modes
- Story: eight chapters about Nibbles, experiment #42, eating its way out of GulpCo Labs and across town to GulpCo Tower. Each chapter has its own map and three missions that earn stars.
- Quick Play: jump into any map you’ve unlocked, such as Downtown, Suburbia, Frosty Peaks or Neon Night.
- Daily: one map and seed shared by everyone that day, so you and your friends can compare runs.
Tips for Bigger Runs
- Eat small and fast at the start. Chaining lots of tiny things in the first 20 seconds builds your combo and gets you to the first mutation sooner.
- Magnet and Tornado work well together. Magnet pulls things toward you, Tornado drags them in from further away, and the two can clear a street in seconds.
- Chew buildings from below. You don’t have to be huge to bring down a tower. Sit under it, eat the base and let the rest fall in as rubble.
- Only hunt rivals you’re clearly bigger than. A swallowed rival is a big jump in size, but one that’s even a little bigger than you will eat you instead.
- Spend the second minute growing. The mech arrives at 2:00 and you want to be big enough to eat it, not run from it.
If You Like Hole.io
Hole.io made “eat the city” a whole genre, and plenty of black hole games copy it closely. Mutant Hole plays the same at heart: steer, swallow, grow. Where it’s different is the choices. You decide what your hole turns into every level, you fight a boss and you keep a hunger bar fed. There’s real physics too, so things tip over the rim and buildings crack before they come down. Rounds last three minutes, which is about right for a quick game on a break.
Questions Players Ask
Is Mutant Hole Free to Play?
Yes. It's free in your browser. There's nothing to download or install, and you don't need an account.
What Is a Hole Game?
You steer a hole around a map and swallow anything smaller than it. Every bite makes the hole wider, so you can eat bigger things, until you're taking down whole buildings. Hole.io made the idea famous, and people also call these black hole games.
Is Mutant Hole Like Hole.io?
The basic idea is the same. You eat the city and race rival holes to get the biggest. Mutant Hole adds a mutation pick every time you level up, a hunger bar, a boss fight, a story mode and a daily map.
Can I Play This Hole Game on My Phone?
Yes. It works on phones and tablets, held either way. Touch anywhere and drag to use the floating joystick.
How Do I Eat Big Buildings?
Your hole has to be wider than the thing you want to swallow. If a building is too big, park under it. You'll chew through its base, the floors above crumble, and the rubble falls in.
What Happens When the Hunger Bar Runs Out?
Your hole closes and the round ends. The bar drains faster as you grow, so keep eating. Every bite refills it, and the Iron Gut mutation slows the drain.
How Do I Beat the MEGA MECH Boss?
The mech shows up at the 2:00 mark and shrinks any hole it stomps. Keep away from it while you grow, then swallow it once you're big enough. It's worth a huge score bonus.
Does the Game Save My Progress?
Yes. Coins, upgrades, skins and story progress are saved in your browser. A round in progress is checkpointed too, so you can hit Continue and pick up where you left off.
